I'm rating the EF 1.4x III Extender at 4/5 Stars because of the excellence of build and the quality of the images it produces. It's a considerable improvement on the Mk II. I've dropped a star because of the decision by Canon to cripple the AF with some cameras and not others and because the RRP is slightly too high IMO. The microprocessor inside has been updated as well as the coatings on the glass elements. I was pleasantly surprised. At 19m distance from the charts, the RF 2x performs far better on the 100-500mm than does the EF 2xTC on the 100-400mm II.
