I'm rating the EF 1.4x III Extender at 4/5 Stars because of the excellence of build and the quality of the images it produces. It's a considerable improvement on the Mk II. I've dropped a star because of the decision by Canon to cripple the AF with some cameras and not others and because the RRP is slightly too high IMO.

I am considering getting the Canon EF Extender 2x III to use with my Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM lens. I can't afford the Canon 800mm L lens, so I am thinking of the teleconverter. In reading reviews I have seen some that say it is very sharp and others that say it is not. What experien
Forget using an extender on the 55-250, unless you don't mind to focus manually. Second, the 70-300 will give you better better results than a 55-250+extender. Third, I doubt if there are any extenders that fit EF-s lenses. Kind regards, Sandor. maarensv's gear list: Canon 6D Mark II Canon EOS R Olympus E-M5 III Canon EOS R7 Canon EF 100mm F2
Canon EF 100-400mmL II + EF 2x III Extender on the Canon EOS R6 camera. The EF 1.4x III and EF 2x III Extenders were redesigned "from the ground up" according to Canon. They're stronger internally and have more screws holding them together. The microprocessor inside has been updated as well as the coatings on the glass elements.
I was pleasantly surprised. At 19m distance from the charts, the RF 2x performs far better on the 100-500mm than does the EF 2xTC on the 100-400mm II. The 100-500mm at 1000mm produced crisp lines, and gave 40% more resolution than the bare lens and about 20% more than the 100-500mm at 700mm.
